CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS AND ORGANIZATIONS: ComEdu:Creating Comics for Education

 We're excited to announce the open call for participants and organisations for the first co-working meeting within the international strategic partnership project "ComEdu: Comics for Education"!

Supported by the Erasmus+ Youth in Action programme, together with partners: Mondo (Estonia) and Rotaj Jovem (Portugal) we are bringing together 20 youth workers and artists to develop something new - comics for non-formal education of young people!

CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS

If you are a comic artist, illustrator, student of arts, self-taught artist, a youth worker or youth educator from Latvia, Estonia and Portugal - take a look and apply for the one-week international co-working meeting "ComEdu: Creating Comics for Education" that will take place from 28 January - 3 February 2019 in Latvian countryside!

The international team - comic artist Amanda Baeza (http://amanda-baeza.tumblr.com/) (Portugal/Chile), non-formal education facilitator Sintija Lase abd comics editor Sanita Muižniece - will be there every step of the way. Lots of inspiration, experiments and sleepless night of 24-hour comics marathon guaranteed!

If you are a member of an organization in Latvia, Estonia or Portugal and your organization is engaged in youth work or education, and you have facts, messages, processes, stories or concepts that need to be explained in a visual manner of comic language for better educational experience for young people, we may help! 

Share your ideas or needs here by 11 January 2019!

How it works: you share your idea or need for a visualization with us, and we will select the most suitable ones to work on with our artists (1-2 comics for each country). We will visualize your content during the project. For free! The only thing you need to make sure of is that the created materials are widely used and available for free in youth education afterwards.

š! #33 'Misery' Open Call

After almost two years it's time again for a new open call for the š! comics anthology. Times at the kuš! office are hard. To cheer us up, we thought we'll make an issue about misery. It's better to share the pain, right? So please hit us with your most heart-wrenching and dark stories for the saddest kuš! publication ever!

Full details of participation:

- Theme: Misery 

- Page count: 4-14 

- Language: English
- Format: DIN A6, width 10.5cm × height 14.8cm
- Bleed: In case you want your comics to be full bleed make sure to add 3 mm cut off space all around the comics (in this case the width of each page should be 11.1 cm and the height 15.4 cm). Don't place texts and important details close to the page borders (Bleed explained in a graphic).

- Colors: Yes, CMYK, b/w works are also welcome

- Resolution: 300 dpi (1200 dpi for b/w works)
- File format: preferably tiff or pdf

- If we publish your comics, you'll get a hug and at least 5 free copies of the anthology

- Submit only low resolution jpgs for our consideration (but big enough to read (approximately 900 pixels in width)! The big resolution files as described above we'll ask you to send later.) Please don't send zip files, don't use google documents or wetransfer or the like, we only want preview files now!
- please include a short description of yourself and a link to your site/blog

- Deadline: 6 June 2018

- After receiving your work we'll write you a confirmation e-mail within 14 days. If you don't hear from us, write us again, maybe your mail got lost or we are still crying.
- The decision what we'll publish will be made until 1 July. We'll mail you if you're in!
- We'd prefer if you don't publish the full comics on- or offline before we print it. 
- Please don't send comics which are made for a bigger format. If your comic is unreadable in A6 format, it will not be published.

- We are always happy to feature experimental approaches in storytelling and art. Don't limit yourself!
- If you have any questions, just write us. Best if you write a comment below, as other people might have the same question.

mini kuš! mini open call

You could be the author of mini kuš! #27.

The mini kuš! #26-28 are ready to be printed, but it's usually convenient to print four at once, so we'd like to give you the chance to release your comic as a mini kuš!. We don't give you enough time to draw anything new, you can just submit something that you have already prepared, but didn't publish yet. Self-published works are eligible, or also works published in any other language than English.

kuš! open call - Villages

It's been a while since the last open call for š!... but as many people have been asking about making another one, we gave in to the demand and are now launching the call for submissions for š! #16 'Villages'. The last open call was for š! #11 'Artventurous' which in our opinion proved to be very successful and brought a lot of new artists to our attention.

For the new issue we are looking for stories about 'Villages'. Actual, real villages anywhere on the planet Earth. Wikipedia has a good definition of villages here.

"A village is a clustered human settlement or community, larger than a hamlet but smaller than a town with the population ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand (sometimes tens of thousands)."

Open call for š! #11

It is time for an open call and and the theme of š! #11 is  "artventurous".

We are looking for stories with a certain twist either inspired by art or about art.  The theme can be interpreted very widely - your work can be about adventures encountering art, making art, inspired by art, or in any other way very "artventourous".
